First Day of Homeschool!

Today I finally grew up and decided that our summer was over and we would begin school.

The day has been awesome, and I am so thankful that God allows me to have this time with my kids.  I am not going to lie and say that homeschooling is always easy.  In fact, most of the time it is hard.  But God has called me to do this, and therefore given me the Grace to do it.  And I'd much rather be doing something that is hard but with the Grace of God, than trying to do something easy on my own.  Amen.

We started the morning with a hearty breakfast.

Zucchini-pancakes with Nutella, scrambled eggs, and banana.

After breakfast we did our Bible lesson.  I love the Jesus Storybook Bible.

Then it was time to get our "First Day of School Picture".  It made sense to do it on the table.

Next was "flag time".  Last night, I told Brian my planned order of events.

Me:  We will do Bible time, flag time, calendar time....
Brian:  Wait, what the heck is "flag time"?
Me:  Uh, the Pledge of Allegiance, duh.

At which time Brian started reciting said allegiance, which he totally screwed up, and I burst out laughing.

And then I schooled him and recited the whole thing.

And then he Wiki'd it, and found out we were both wrong.

Three cheers for home schooling!

Isaiah is Calendar Helper for the week.  (Please don't tell him this is only a two-day week.)

The kids went outside to assess the weather situation.

Next up was Journal Time.  I had each of the kids either write, or draw a picture about their day.

Isaiah drew "God making the world".

Noah's "is about an eagle and a lion".

And Emma's says:  "Today is the first day uf secund grad."

Tomorrow we will be working on spelling.

Our new whiteboard.  I think the principal is shackin' up with the teacher.

The boys did some pages in their preschool workbooks, then switched to doing flashcards.

Isaiah is helping Noah work on his colors.

Noah is really concentrating, and actually did better than he's ever done on his colors.

Meanwhile, Emma got started on her math.

The boys were allowed to pick out a learning game or something creative to play with.

Isaiah chose Mr. Potato Head.

Noah chose Candy Land, which Isaiah soon joined in on.

Even Braxton had "school" today with his therapist.

Working on neck strength during tummy time.

And finally, for "free time" the kids got to play with face paints.  Or in their case, body paint.

It was a great first day and I even had time to get some laundry done and clean up the kitchen.

Happy schooling!

Sounds great! I'm glad you get the time with the kids. Also to see Braxton working out. Now the only one missing is Biniam & grandpa picked him up for his soccer game.
Love you all. Love Grandma Barb

I am so very impressed! First for getting your kids to eat zucchini pancakes, Alex is such a picky eater, I'm surprised he still has as much chub as he does. Second, for getting so much done in one day! You are one awesome Momma!!

It's great to see your first day confidence, compared to last year's apprehension. And you were so successful last year, just think what you can accomplish this year. Nice start!

I would love it if you could share your zucchini pancake recipe. I am always looking for something new to do with zucchini.
