Non-Toxic Sunscreen

Today I will be researching and ordering non-toxic sunscreen for my family.  Did you know there was such a thing?  Did you even know that typical sunscreens are full of toxins?

As my guide, I am using this non-profit website Skin Deep, which tests and rates cosmetic products.

Many products that I would have assumed are fine for my family to use are actually highly toxic.  Some of the products are actually targeted to and labeled "Kids", yet I found out their toxicity level is a 9 or 10, with 10 being the most toxic.  Yikes.  I don't want to be putting that on my kids!

Now the thing is, I am a huge believer in sunscreen.  Not wearing sunscreen is just as risky, or riskier, than using toxic chemicals.  But now I know I can have the best of both worlds.

As a side note, I have found that as with most things that are good for you, non-toxic sunscreen is more expensive than the toxic stuff.  But after a little research my husband discovered that we can reimburse ourselves from our Flexible Spending Account ("Flex Plan") for sunscreen with a 30 SPF or higher.  So there you go!  Sunscreen that is good for me just became affordable!

Now, to help remind you what you are trying NOT to do, enjoy this pic of me from two years ago.

Ouch!

Thanks to Jen over at Pure Mod Life for originally exposing me to Skin Deep!
