Choose Joy!

Today was just one of those days where I had a smile in my heart and on my face. Not because anything big or out of the ordinary happened.

I got up, got the kids fed and Emma off to school.
Got the boys dressed, and headed for the gym.
Swam laps for 30 minutes.
Showered, got dressed, did my hair AND makeup, all uninterrupted.
Then picked up the boys.
Went to Target, bought the Wii Fit.
Came home, fed the boys a healthy lunch, waited for Emma's bus.
Took Emma to a friend's house for lunch/play date.
Sat down, read my bible and drank hot tea.
Finished Christmas / birthday thank you notes.
Straightened the house.
Made a yummy dinner for my family.
Snuggled my baby and watched the family get "fit".
Put the kids to bed, then got competitively "fit" with my hubby.

A pretty ordinary day. But part-way through it I became smack-aware of how blessed I am to do these things. To have these wonderful children. To get to stay home and take care of them. To get to do things for myself, like go to the gym. To have extra money to spend on things like a Wii Fit. These things aren't rights, they are blessings. I am so blessed to be able to serve my family.

I could have focused on the things that went wrong. Like the fact that Noah fell on his face at Target and split his lip and chin open. Or that Brian had to work a little late. Or that Noah ended the day with a fever.

But instead I focus on the blessings. I choose joy. And that's no coincidence that I had a great day.

Wow, you almost made me cry. You are so right...we should all focus on the blessings instead of the things that go wrong in our day, or the the things that we stress and worry about. Thanks for the reminder! Love you guys!

I stop by the big "gym of life" for a few minutes and take a seat in the grandstand next to a couple strangers. After a moment I can't resist and I turn to someone there I don't know and say: "That's my daughter that just wrote that!"

She makes me proud:)
