Washington DC

We got into DC late Saturday night and checked into our wonderful hotel. We had a lovely suite with a bedroom with two queens, room for two cribs, a living room with a hide-a-bed, full kitchen and dining room. Everyone had a bed and plenty of room to spread out.

Sunday after breakfast we caught the metro to Union Station (which is beautiful) and purchased tickets for a two-day, hop-on, hop-off double decker tour bus. We decided that would be the best option considering our limited amount of time, plus the fact that the weather was not cooperating and it rained all day. We got off at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and spent a few hours looking at dinosaurs, whales, butterflies, and other creatures.

By the time we got back on the tour bus we pretty much only had time to ride it around the whole tour loop and take in the sites from the bus. Blessedly, for a little while it stopped raining and we got to go up to the top level of the bus. That was an adventure in itself!

On Monday our plan was to take in some of the memorials but unfortunately the weather was still too wet. So we went to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Brian was like a kid in a candy store. To say he loves aerospace stuff is a bit of an understatement. Watching Brian share his interest with the kids, and have them enjoy it as well, was precious. The museum was so nice - big, open, not-too-crowded, and a great, hands-on kids area. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we ended up staying there until it was time to pick up our rental car in the afternoon and head to southern Virginia.

What great pictures! (and taken with your new Rebel, I imagine!). I'm bummed that it is raining so much but am happy you are still having a great time. Just seeing your pictures makes me miss living there. Missing you!
