Look Who's Riding!

Last night my 3 1/2 year-old officially became a two-wheel bike-rider!  I was only half paying attention when Brian and Isaiah gave it the first attempt.  I did a double-take and said "did he just do it?".  Yep!  So I grabbed the camera and caught the second attempt on video.  Here it is:

Some background on our method.  A year or two ago Mary over at Owlhaven blogged about taking the training wheels AND the pedals off a bike in order for a youngster to grasp the concept of balance.  By lowering the seat all the way down you create a "push bike" for the child to scoot around on.  Once they gain confidence and start gliding along with their feet up, you put the pedals back on and watch what happens.

In Isaiah's case, we took the pedals off a few weeks ago but he lost interest in the bike and only got on it once or twice.  Then last night he pulled it out, got on, and within seconds he was gliding.  So Brian put the pedals on and thought they'd give it a try.  Sure enough - first try out and he had it!

Here is one of his longer rides.

By the way, this is the same method that worked with Emma last year.

Congratulations to Isaiah and also to Emma for her "perfect" cartwheel and to Noah for his pedaling advancement on trike. All in the same day. What a great day for the little kids. Did Biniam come home from Youth Group and do something special too?

This is THE most beautiful smile I've seen from this little man...LOVE it. A stubborn streak well nurtured will create great things! In this case-determination to ride! In 30 years? Who knows what greatness he will accomplish! Love you Isaiah!
