Time to hit the books!

I'm putting a lot of thought into Emma's schooling options this week. She will be starting Kindergarten in the fall so it's time to get serious about this.

Brian's job this week is to arrange for tours of two public schools. One is the local "regular" one, and the other is a magnate school for the arts.

My job this week is to research home schooling options. A bit of background: I was home schooled from 2nd - 9th grades, and although I had a good experience with it, I SWORE I would never home school my kids. I also swore I would never live in Idaho, so shows what I know.

I have a lot of research to do because frankly the idea of home schooling terrifies me. I think in order to be successful at it I would need to have a good support group and the right curriculum. I know of a home school co-op near us where kids attend classes at a church two days a week, then the parents teach at home the other three days. I am excited to find out more about that.

As far as Emma is concerned, she just wants to ride a bus. Basically she will have achieved all she needs to achieve by stepping on a large yellow bus. Hmm, maybe I could just rent one for an afternoon?

I know the guy who took over as Vineyard's Homeschool Co-op. He is awesome! If homeschooling were for us, this would be the way we would go!

I don't know, Shana. When I was teaching you (part of the time) in home schooling, you were a "difficult" student to deal with. If I could make "difficult" bold and red to stand out more, I would. I wouldn't wish a student like that on you. But, look at how you turned out. Was it in spite of home-schooling?...or because of it? I am very proud of all you have accomplished in life (even without riding on a yellow bus much). So I think you would make a great home schooling mom, if that is what you decide. And Emma will do great too, in whatever you decide for her. God bless you in the decision.

I love you,

Dad

When you rent 'said' bus, please swing by our house because Cal dreams of riding that big yellow beast, too!
