Last night we were able to pull everything together that we needed to complete our "file" for AAI, and it's off in the mail today! Everything was pretty easy, really. For our letter of commitment we stated that we will enlist our young married group to help donate items for the orphanage, as well as encourage donations at our baby shower.
Probably the hardest part was deciding which medical conditions we would either be "willing to consider" or "would not consider". We definitely want a "healthy" baby, but that term is somewhat relative. We were asked about all sorts of conditions, from cleft palate to poor vision to blood disorders to missing limbs...and everything else in-between. We answered to the best of our ability, based on what we know about each condition. When the time comes that we have received a referral for a baby, we can request the medical history (although it may be limited) and discuss it with our pediatrician.
Wow, this is beginning to feel real. Here is the family picture we included in our file.
