The (dirty) mouths of babes

Sitting on a couch with Emma, getting ready to read a book together.

Emma: "Mom, your stomach is still big from the baby! That's funny!"

Me: Hilarious.

She's only partly right. Yes, when I am sitting or slouching I still have some, uh, "loose" skin around my midsection. But actually, I am happy to report that as of this morning (post-nursing, pre-breakfast) I hit my pre-pregnancy weight! I'm sure the moment the first morsel of food hit my mouth it all came back, but hey. For a moment in time I was there!

I actually would have hit my goal sooner, had I not slacked right after my birthday, and then been sick off and on over the past six weeks. Then again, I am a goal-oriented person and I was running low on inspiration. But NOW I am fully motivated and inspired to stay on track and lose an additional 5 pounds. My immediate goal? To be skinny and firm when my awesome friend gets home from vacation on July 2 (miss you, Spooner!). She gave birth the day after me and has been slim and firm for months now. Sickening, really.

But here's my BIG motivation. Drumroll please..........I want to run a race. Just a 5k, but those of you who know me know how much I HATE running, and what an accomplishment that would be for me. There. I said it. Now I'm committed. Last night I ran 2 miles in 22 minutes. Hold on, don't go checking the record books yet...my goal (for now) is to do 3 miles in 30 minutes. Stunning, really.

I check in on you guys every once in a while, we are adopting from Ethiopia as well! Ok, you don't know it but you just found your latest passion. I used to make fun of people when they ran (yes, it's terrible:)). I thought to myself, who would ever do that to themselves? Well, now...I love running and just finished my 3rd 1/2 marathon. And that's how it starts, just a 5k and then you will be hooked!!! Both Rob and I have been running for a long time so we are always here if you need advice. Rob coaches cross-country running too. Good luck, you will do great!
