29 1/2 weeks

Today was my follow-up ultrasound as well as my glucose-test. Brian came with me since we were going to see the baby and check out the kidneys to see if there were still any concerns.

First I got to drink the lovely sugar-water disguised as lemon-lime-soda-without-enough-carbonation-and-too-much-concentrate. Then I got to get weighed. And finally I got to walk down a hallway past other patients while trying not to spill a full cup of my own urine - a clear cup. But enough of the fun stuff...

It was amazing to see the baby at almost 30 weeks. I had never seen a baby past 20 weeks in an ultrasound and the difference in the clarity of the features was amazing. At times it seemed the baby was looking right at us, and we could make out all the little details of his eyes, nose, mouth, etc. His belly looks round, and even his arms and legs have the beginning of baby "rolls" on them.

The Doctor checked out the kidneys, and unfortunately there is "slightly more" fluid than the last ultrasound (we were hoping for the same or less). The Doctor still says this is not something to worry about, and that this is the most common "abnormality" he sees - probably one a week. The amniotic fluid looks good, which would be our first indicator if there really was a problem. Doc says that this is likely something that will correct itself once the baby is born, although the Pediatrician may do an ultrasound on the baby in the first few days of life just to check things out. To be safe we are going to take one more look at the baby when I get to 36 weeks.

Okay, back to when I mentioned "baby rolls". Doc did some measurements, and people, this baby already weighs 4 POUNDS! I still have 10 more weeks of baby growth to go! His comment when first looking at the baby was "this ain't no small baby". Baby Boy is around the 81%. My previous reluctance at being induced a little early has turned to a full-fledged campaign to get this baby out as soon as possible. I asked the Dr if I could start smoking cigarettes to slow down the baby's growth, but he said it's too late for that.

Well, the holidays are here and then the baby is right around the corner. I told Brian we might want to start thinking about names, and maybe getting a bed and clothes for the poor babe. Otherwise we might be reinacting the "manger scene" a little more closely than ever planned.

Wow! I think Marley was 4 pounds and 4 ounces when she was born! : ) What's your actual "due date"?
