Friday night in Ethiopia

Friday Night

Brian and Biniam ended up arriving a couple of hours late. Turns out their plane made a stop to pick up more passengers in another town – on their “direct, non-stop flight”. Such is the Ethiopian Air way. Somehow I managed to convince them to head back out for dinner at Habesha even though it was almost bed time. We were seated right up front, at the table Brian and I first ate at in January. Emma was pretty grumpy the whole time, which was somewhat forgivable given the time. But the waitresses still oohed and aahed over her, and the singers and dancers kept performing “for her”. They all did their best to get a smile from her.

Soon all the attention turned to concern as we looked over and saw Emma holding a broken glass in her hand with blood coming out from her mouth. A glass had actually broken in her mouth while she was taking a drink. We think she may have bit it with her teeth, but we didn’t know it at the time. Needless to say Emma was a wreck and we had to take her outside and take turns trying to calm her. The staff kept running out to check on us and try their best to calm her, and even suggested taking her to the hospital. Thankfully once we got into the light we could see that just her tongue was sliced a little and that it would heal on its own.
