My wonderful birthday...

Friday I turned the big 2-8. I didn't really have any plans for the day. I figured I would just stay home and clean the house, and enjoy the birthday calls I was sure to get. Instead, Brian had BIG plans for the day!

7:15 AM - I wake up next to Brian and enjoy a snuggle, then look over at the clock and PANIC because Brian only has 45 minutes to make it to his meeting, and his commute takes almost that long. Brian gets a grin on his face and informs me that he took the day off!

9:00 AM - After sleeping in a bit, Brian wakes me to join him and Emma downstairs for a yummy breakfast of french toast and strawberries.

10:30 AM - We pile into the car and head to the zoo! The weather was perfect, and we had a wonderful time. Some highlights were: seeing a mama goose sitting on her eggs while they hatched!; riding the carousel with Emma; and seeing Emma enjoy all the animals - especially the penguins and the tiger.

1:00 PM - Head downtown to enjoy lunch. We ate at a little greek restaurant on the sidewalk, enjoying the weather and watching the passers-by.

2:15 PM - Meet my mom in a parking lot to pass off Emma to her.

2:30 PM - We arrived at an ice skating rink! I had been talking about my desire to ice skate for a while (probably since the olympics) so Brian took note. Not only that, he had a private instructor waiting there to give us lessons! We had a blast, and we both did pretty good. I can now transition from forward to backward - and back - pretty easily, and spin up to three rotations. I did come away with a nasty bruise on my knee from one of my spin attempts. Brian fell a couple times too, but I can't say it was from trying anything fancy. ;)

5:00 PM - We arrived at an Italian restaurant where we were to meet the rest of our family for dinner. We got there a bit early, so we enjoyed a drink in the bar. When the rest of our group arrived we enjoyed a nice dinner; plus I got to open presents. :)

7:45 PM - We made it home, exhausted and happy.

What a day! Brian did such a great job planning everything and making my day special. Sure beat cleaning the house...
