Ethiopian Food

While I was in Seattle last week I had the experience of trying Ethiopian food for the first time. I would have liked for Brian to enjoy that experience with me, but since there are no Ethiopian restaurants in Idaho, I thought I better take the chance while I had it.

After reading online reviews, I chose Queen Sheeba as the restaurant of choice. We made it a family affair with nine of us total. My dad quickly made friends with the Ethiopian staff who sort of took us under their wings and made sure we had a nice time. We got to sit in a private corner, where instead of tables, we ate off "mesobs" -- woven Ethiopian basket-like tables. We ordered just about everything on the menu, it seemed, not knowing what to expect.

Our food arrived on two large platters, heaped in piles on top of injera (sour, flat bread), and we each received our own piece of injera to use as our "utensils" for picking up the food. I have to admit that in pictures (and maybe even in person, too) the food looks kind of gross. But the fragrance of the heavy spices was wonderful, and I don't think any of us tried anything we didn't like.

I can't wait to have a chance to go back with Brian!
